Service Above Self Award
Student athletes are sometimes categorized as "stars" and "players". However, there are often team members who by their selfless support and example instill spirit and boost the morale of the rest of the team. These are not necessarily the stars.
In the development of this award, the members of the Topsfield Rotary Club applied the true meaning of Rotary in honoring these student-athletes. No two Rotarians are alike, no two communities or schools are alike, no two recipients of the award are alike - but the pattern of service is, being filled with thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others.
Rotary makes people sensitive to need; it impels one to bring knowledge and experience to the task and, above all, to act. The Rotarian and the recipients of this award give immediate and concrete meaning to "service above self" and "he/she profits most who serves best".
These students have been chosen because they gave "above and beyond the call of duty" to their individual sports teams and their schools. Congratulations and continued success and service to the recipients.
