If you missed today's meeting, you have until September 23, 2009 to complete a makeup.
If your days are full, consider a make up at eClub One. Log on to www.rotaryeclubone.org/ and follow the instructions for a make up. You should spend 30 minutes on the site.
Click for
where our members have made up recently.
Don't forget, the meeting of August 12 was not held at Angelica's. Instead, President Jeff Kruck has requested all members to Make Up this meeting by attending a meeting at another Rotary Club. Members are also requested to bring some insight back to TBM for discussion.
Be sure to get a "Make Up Card" from the secretary of the club where you make up.
If you're not sure if you fulfilled the Make Up request made by President Jeff, check the list above. A missing name means you have not Made Up or have not informed the TBM secretary.
This is also a good place for the Sergeant at Arms to look if enforcement becomes necessary!
Announcements:
President Jeff announced that there is a board meeting at 5:00pm on September 22 at his house.
Pres. Jeff also reminded everyone that has not done a make up and shared their experience to please do so.
Shelterbox will be presenting in Boston, Monday September 14th, if anyone is interested.
The meeting on October 7th will be at the Topsfield Fair.
"Meet me at the Fair" a quote from President Jeff.
Sponsors for the road race need to be in by September 23rd to get the logo's
printed on the shirts (this is only sponsors donated $250 and above).
This event on Sunday, October 18, is a major fund raiser. Funds come from sponsors. Be sure to get out to past sponsors that you know and get a committment for this year!

Raffle:
Our guest Bob Derba's number was pulled 1st today (by Bob Derba)....there was a small delay as Pres Jeff could not find the deck of cards.
We are looking for the king of clubs....
No winner.
Next Gregg Silvano's number was pulled...
No luck for Gregg either.
Bob Alert:
The Bob alert was off the charts today!!
We started the meeting with just Bob Murphy....but then Bob Luscinski made a late appearance with his guest Bob Derba.
That's a lot of Bob's in one room.
No Bob Was though.
Quote of the day "The Bob's clean up nicely!"
Fines and Happy Dollars:
Bob Luscinski was fined for being late, but he was given a discount for bringing a guest.
Todd Darling was fined for "touching Peter". He also put in a couple dollars for missing last weeks meeting. And a happy dollar that all the kids are in school.
Bernie Creeden put in a sad dollar, he was disappointed that with all the information going around about the H1NI Virus, Todd and Peter were not using good social practices.
Joe Long gave a happy dollar because his freshman daughter made the varsity soccer team.
Pres. Jeff Kruck gave $10 in fines. $5 for insulting the speaker lats week and $5 so he can do it again this week.
Gretchen Marks presented banners from many other clubs. She had quite the collection. Gretchen said "This is an example of how you do a makeup."
Harry Martin also has many more banners at home that are in need of repair.
Enjoying the company of fellow Rotarians.
Getting To Know You:
Lisa Foley was telling us today how she volunteers every year to be an assistant coach for soccer. Well she got a bonus surprise this year when she found out she was given her own team and she's head coach...
Harry Martin told us how a fellow in Canada was very instrumental in in getting the Rotary eClub One going.
Remember this is always an option for a make up.
Did everyone know Mia Farrow had polio? Lisa learned this on Rotary eClub One.
We talked a lot about the Road Race today. Lisa is just trying to organize and finalize things as it is fast approaching on October 18th. We should all be talking to previous sponsor's and letting Lisa know what we can do to help the day of the race.
Program:
Program Chair, Steve Mooney introduced our guest speaker Mary McManus who is a polio and post polio syndrome survivor. Mary shared her very moving story with us.
In 1959 Mary was diagnosed with Polio at age 5. She collapsed in gym class and a spinal tap (which was done in the home at the time, ouch) revealed she had paralytic polio.
She went through physical therapy once she was able to get out of the house. She had to wear a full leg brace and the "polio shoes".
Mary continued to push herself, she was able to stop wearing the leg brace and she walk again.
She went on to live her life.
In 1996 she began to have symptoms again. Her doctor told her post polio syndrome did not exist.
By 2006 her symptoms were intolerable. She knew she had to do something at this point. She googled "post polio syndrome".
This opened up many new doors for Mary. She was linked in to the Spalding rehab hospital website where she learned a lot and helped put her back onto the road of recovery.
She went back into the leg brace and "polio shoes". She cut back at work, and she discovered she needed to "heal her life" in order to really get better.
She also began working on strength training.
On April 20th she ran and completed the Boston Marathon.
It is now her life's work to share her journey and help others.
An attentive group as Mary McManus tells us about her experiences.
Mary writes a blog, Welcome to a New World at www.newworldgreetings.blogspot.com.
She also creates original poetry for all occasions through her company New World Greeting Cards. www.newworldgreetings.com
Membership Moment:
A strong membership is so important to the overall success of any organization. Growth and retention have to be in the spotlight constantly. As membership chair I have been charged with heading the largest committee in the Club...each and everyone of us. Collectively we can make TBM stronger, more involved in the communities we serve and fun.
When was the last time you asked a friend, a neighbor or business associate to come to a TBM meeting? I admit, it's been a while since I put out an invitation and I have a goal to find one person to join our ranks during this Rotary year.
I ask everyone to please share your thoughts and ideas as to how we can grow the ranks of TBM.
