The Tri-Town RotaNews - July 15, 2009

President Jeff Kruck was mostly ignored as he tried to bring the meeting to order at about 12:20 pm. He finally rang the bell which brought immediate order to the group

Pres. Jeff then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

John Plate led us in a prayer, giving thanks for all we tend to take for granted and reminding us to be generous in what we do for throughout the world.

Bob Murphy pitched in again today, greeting attendees while helping with meal choices and attendance. Thanks, Bob.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

There were 13 members in attendance today.

Bob Luszcinski showed up as we started eating, better late than never, Bob.

Steve Mooney had a guest today, Dominic Wright from the UK. He traveled all this way just to come to our rotary meeting.

Make Ups:

We've heard again from Joanne Travers. Her make up was at Rotary Club in Honduras.

If you missed today's meeting, you have until July 29, 2009 to complete a makeup.

Announcements

  • Lisa Foley is heading up the Road Race this year. She is working with a few members putting all the details together. No new news to report this week on the road race.

  • Harry Martin reminded us to make our Sustaining member contributions.

  • Harry stopped into the bank on Tuesday with a very sad look on his face. He had just found out we did not come in #1 in the district for per capita giving. It was a very sad day for Harry. I gave him a lollipop in hopes to cheer him up. It didn't work as well with him as it does with the 3 year olds. So we'll all have to try harder to hit that number this year. I don't know what Harry will do if we come in second two years in a row...

  • We will be meeting at Camp Rotary on Wednesday July 29th.

  • There will be a board meeting next Thursday. Pres. Jeff recommends attendance as a self defense measure.

Raffle:

Recently retired as SAA, Brad Swanson manned his previous post today.

Our new SAA, Peter "Staples" McAlister was "hit in the bonnet" while golfing, so he was not able to make it today. The quote of the day, today, was " Next Time yell FORE!" We hope you are feeling better Peter.

Morphed photo of Peter
done by Dave Twitchell We did a quick check for a before photo of Peter and found one (shown on left) in the Oct. 16, 2002 RotaNews.

It's an interesting issue that provides a trip down memory lane as well as a glimpse to the future.

By the way, Dave Twitchell was the photoshopper who morphed actual photos of members into the team leaders seen there.

Dave also used the nom de plume Irreverant!

We were still looking for the Red joker this week....

Brad's number was pulled first, then Bob Was had a chance, still no red joker.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

There were many excess fines charged today for not completing the puzzle found in the bulletin. Harry Martin and Bill Shannon were the only one's to complete the puzzle so they were spared.

Bob Luscinski made a pitch for Sudoku. You'll have to do the word puzzle first, Bob!

Harry was happy that Gregg Silvano aka "Pinky" hasn't attended the meeting the last couple of weeks.....hmmm. Hope to see you soon, Greg.

Bob Alert:

....There was no Bob alert today, Bob was present. However, there was a Joe alert. Our recently materialized member (or guest - see last week's RotaNews), Joe Long seems to have de-materialized again. We know he's there. We just can't see him!

Getting To Know You:

Today we learned that Brad the Tax Assessor apparently flunked Stat's in college and couldn't do his multiplication tables in school. That's interesting! He must have a really good calculator.

Program:

Instead of a program today, Pres. Jeff discussed some club business. He told us he had a meeting with the elusive Joe Long to discuss techniques for getting and keeping new members. Joe is our membership chair this year.

Pres. Jeff also pointed out that Steve Mooney would make a great program chair.

At the end of the meeting, Steve took the challange and informed Pres. Jeff that he would do the job. Be sure to let Steve know if you have any thoughts on program material.

Be sure to take a look at next weeks agenda. President Jeff has something special planned for us.
