The Tri-Town RotaNews - July 8, 2009

President Jeff Kruck suddenly realized that we were at Angelica's for a meeting and at about 12:20 called the group to order and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

John Plate led us in a prayer for throughout the world who can benefit from our generosity to The Rotary Foundation.

Bob Murphy pitched in today helping with meal choices and attendance. That Bob is such a team player!

New round tables are more comfortable and good for lively conversation.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

There were 18 members in attendance

Jeff Kruck welcomed Joe Long as our guest today. Hi Joe!
I guess that avoids a Joe alert!

Make Ups:

Oscar Padjen made up at

Joanne Travers made up at Tegucigalpa

While Joanne did communicate that she made up in Tegucigalpa, there are 7 Rotary Clubs there, and communication being what it is, we haven't yet heard which one.

If you missed today's meeting, you have until July 22, 2009 to complete a makeup.

Announcements

  • Pres. Jeff announced there will be a board meeting on January 23rd...oops July 23rd @ 5:00pm. Cocktail Hour will be held at Jeff's house. I think Jeff may have already started cocktail hour

  • Bill Shannon was looking for annual dues from everyone.

  • Harry Martin reminded us to make our Sustaining Member contributions and to take advantage of the July Special.
What is a fisle Harry......??? Maybe he meant fiscal! happy

  • Linda Parker asked us to let you know that she will be having a pig roast at her house on Saturday, July 25, starting at 2pm. Bring your kids. Lifeguard on duty. BYOB.

Raffle:

Peter McAllister stood in as SAA today.

Bob Luscinski's number was pulled first, Then Jeff Kruck's....no winner

As Pres. Jeff put it we were looking for the communist Peter McAllister today...the Red Joker

Fines and Happy Dollars:

SAA Peter asked who read the bulletin last week & who did the puzzle...???
Hmmm, not as many responses as we'd like to see

Jan Sinclair took the prize for correctly solving the puzzle. Congrats Jan!

Because Jan followed the instructions, she was able to discover the hidden message:

"Congratulations!
You have completed this crossword puzzle.
TBM members who solve the puzzle, and bring a printout of their solution to next weeks meeting (June 9, 2004 or July 8, 2009), may receive consideration regarding fines that may be levied. Press 'Ctrl P' to print."

Bill Shannon confessed (good for the soul) that he did the puzzle and was so pleased to see the word "Congratulations!" that he didn't read any further.

There's another recycled puzzle for this week. Don't forget to check your work!

SAA Peter then collected $5.00 from Brad Swanson for resigning from his post as SAA. .....Watch out Peter the tax assessor knows where you live in Boxford!

Bob Murphy had a sad dollar for missing the meeting last week and not winning the pool

Bob Alert:

....There was no Bob alert today, Bob was present. There was a Todd alert though...Where's Todd....probably hung over. Word has it, there was a mean game of poker the night before in Todd's barn.

Getting To Know You:

Today we found out Lisa Foley just came back from a family vacation in Florida. The family had a great time.

There was way too much Tax assessing talk going on at our table today...I dozed off a little! Brad Swanson was full of knowledge today! Did you know Ed McMahon was a Marine fighter Pilot...

Brad recently saw a show staring Diana Crawl, Elvis Costello's wife.

Michael Jackson....enough said.

Program:

"Today we will find out who Ira is.:
a quote from our president Jeff Kruck.

Ira Singer gave a classification talk today. Ira is the Town Administrator for the town of Middleton. Ira said the town has changed a lot over the years that he's been administrator, he is very pleased about the changes that have been made.

Ira touched upon three main topics concerning the town of Middleton today:

  • The landfill project

  • The Regional Emergency Management Operations Center

  • The ongoing merger project between Essex Agricultural School and North Shore Technical School. The merger has been in the works for over 10 years. There was also a nice power point presentation on this.

For those of you that want to know more about Ira...you should have come to the meeting.
