President Jeff Kruck who was holding out for better attendance, rang the bell and called the meeting to order about 12:30 pm and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
John Plate offered a prayer, reminding us of those less fortunate than ourselves. He also made a pitch for better weather.
Jan Sinclair pitched in today to take attendance and meal choices. Thanks, Jan.
Today, there was a new menu choice, Spaghetti and Meatballs! It was a hit!
Visiting Rotarians and Guests:
There were 14 members in attendance and our guest was visiting Rotarian, Chandler Noyes from the
Club.
Make Ups:
Todd Darling, Jeff Kruck, Harry Martin and Peter McAllister all get make up credit for attending the District 7930 Installation Dinner on June 30.
If you missed today's meeting, you have until July 15, 2009 to complete a makeup.
Fines and Happy Dollars:
Harry Martin took over as Sgt. at Arms in charge of happy dollars. But happy dollars turned into more than just happy dollars. Harry decided to quiz us on the newest version of the RotaNews. (what honorary members last name didn't get into the last week's issue?) Harry, who really knew this???..... What a question.
Well stand-in SAA Harry stumped us and he got an extra dollar from most of us. Until it was guessed correctly by Jan Sinclair - "Spencer Spat".
Harry should have directed this question mainly to Pres. Jeff (who didn't even read the RotaNews). Thanks Jeff!
Raffle:
Pres. Jeff pulled the winning card. And kindly gave $72.00 back to the The Rotary Foundation. Thanks Jeff! Every little bit helps.
We have to put a "Bob Alert" out. "Where in the world is Bob Murphy?" You know if Bob attended this week, he would have won and put the winnings towards the Salem Football Boosters of 1997.
Announcements
Club Treasurer, Bill Shannon gave the members our Semi-Annual Dues invoice. We know what that means!
Bill also mentioned that the club received a nice Thank you from a scholarship recipient going on to Syracuse.
Gretchen Marks mentioned the The Box-Top Consignment and Thrift Shop will be closed thru July. Starting on August 1, 2009 the thrift shop will be collecting fall items.
Also Gretchen is graciously heading up a group to clean up around The Box-Top Shop. We will need to help with cleaning up the grounds, and possibly a little planting. That was an executive decision made by (Jeff only) to give Gretchen yet another job. Gretchen gladly accepted and will let the club know when and where.
We'd also like to mention there was a comment made about "Senior Ladies". No way is Gretchen a senior lady! Gretchen can run circles around just about anyone in our TBM Club!
John Plate suggested that the Kiosk in Topsfield needs some tender loving care and repair. Gretchen Marks pointed out that some Rotary Wheel logos would be in order.
Bill Shannon produced 4 Rotary window stickers and Gretchen said she would follow up. Thank you all.
Pres. Jeff agreed and he will have his carpenter look at the molding that needs repair.
The lady who has been maintaining the content of the kiosk is looking for a replacement so she can step down. We should find one of our members who is willing to do this.
President Jeff told us about the TriTown reporter mentioning 2 Masco students internships and asked us how we can help with them and the community.
A possible Camp Rotary Luncheon will be scheduled soon.
The puzzle is a re-run of the puzzle from May 26, 2004, but still relavent. The answers to questions with the (Hist) notation can be found at the Rotary Global History Fellowship web site. Use the "SEARCH FOR HISTORY" link at the top of the page.
Try it. You may find that it worth doing!
Be sure to check your results.
Program:
There was no program today.
Rumor has it however, that the coming weeks will see "Who I am" talks by all our members. Don't we all want to know who Oscar Padjen really is!
Start preparing now!
With this in mind, Pres. Jeff tapped Ira Singer to be our speaker next week. Ira, you're really a good sport!
The meeting wrapped up at 1:25pm.
Getting To Know You:
As the newly appointed PR reps for the RotaNews. Carrie Dick and Jen Kocur got to know John Plate and Bob Was. We learned that Bob is a dedicated follower of weather patterns on the North Shore. He informed us it has been raining steady for 26 days. And we are the only area that is getting hit with this bad weather. Thanks Bob for that "dreary news". John was in deep thought, wondering if it would be inappropriate to ask for better weather in the prayer before lunch. Thanks John for trying, it looks like it may be better this weekend. So it worked! Someone was listening John!
