The Tri-Town RotaNews - October 29, 2008

President Janet rang the bell and brought the meeting to order. Joe Carroll addressed Rotarians with a prayer.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Visitors today included Joe Long's guest, Chris Mangos and Linda Parker's guest Mary DiGriggorio.

Make Ups:

There were no make up cards reported today.

If you missed today's meeting, you have until November 12, 2008 to complete a makeup.

Induction of New Members:

Today we inducted 3 new members into the Fellowship of Rotary.
They are:

  • Wayne Hunt who was proposed by Jim Fitzgerald

  • Steve Mooney who was proposed by Joe Long

  • Ron Vercellone who was proposed by Linda Parker

Be sure to introduce yourself to these new members, and sign their copy of "ABC's of Rotary".
Remember, the Sergeant at Arms will be reviewing these books for missing signatures in a few weeks.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Fines and Happy dollars were collected by Acting Sergeant at Arms, Joe Long.

  • Gretchen Marks paid to announce that the club is selling the left over FFC Road Race T-Shirts for $5 each

  • Joanne Travers made a contribution to tell us about a book Over 50 can be golden , as 94 year old Marion Downs contends. At 90, she went sky diving, played in a national tennis tournament and won, entered and won a mini triathlon. She keeps strong by walking (once a 3 mile jog at age 60-70-80), and lifting weights!!! ...even if we're on 20 meds, smoked at one time, and ache every morning when we rise!

  • Linda Parker produced a stream of bills while welcoming TBM's newest members and announcing that she had completed her certification in Trauma Intervention! CONGRATULATIONS!

  • Steve Mooney paid and commented that it took only 4 years to become a Rotarian..I think we should fine him for taking so long.

  • Bernie Creeden paid while agreeing that ripe 'ole ages of 98 can happen! A 98 year old friend is having her first public ART SHOW ; my how old age cultures us.

  • Oscar Padjen paid to announce the Northeastern loss by 2pts...boo! He's hoping they pull a win next week.

  • Janet Larsen gave some bills to Spencer and announced that Sovereign Bank is HEALTHY! She also quelled the rumor and made it clear that she does not have to take spanish classes.
Anyway, welcome new members and congratulations is given to the Middleton Rotary Club of Greater Manchester, England; their 75th anniversary.

  • Todd Darling pointed to the little known fact that he is preparing to enter state politics. Did anyone see him pull a 2 bucks from his bra....I mean inside pocket?

Raffle:

NO WINNING CARD PULLED: figures the new guy, Steve Mooney, got first pick!
