The Tri-Town RotaNews - September 24, 2008

 

President Janet rang the bell and brought the meeting to order. Joe Carroll addressed Rotarians with a prayer.

 

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Visitors today included Joe Long's guest, Jack Havek and Gretchen Marks's guest Steve Mooney.

 

Make Ups:

There were no make up cards reported today.

If you missed today's meeting, you have until October 8, 2008 to complete a makeup.

 

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Fines and Happy dollars were collected by Sergeant at Arms, Brad Swanson.

  • President Janet announced that she will fine anyone who is absent next week (Gov. Tom's visit).

  • SAA Brad continues to fine those not wearing their pins, including himself.

  • Oscar Padjen looked quite dapper today and was his usual generous self.

  • Bernie Creeden is doing great and mentioned September is "Prostate Awareness Month".

  • Barbara decked out the tables with with some great treats. No fines for Barbara! She's a wonderful baker!

 

Raffle:

Bob Murphy rigged the raffle drawing so he could pick twice, though he pulled two loosing numbers and was unable to grab that A of hearts.

 

Announcements

  • The TBM Board met today.

  • Gretchen Marks welcomes continued donations for the Boxtop Thrift Store. Monthly sales from our donations bring in $$$ to our Foundation's Donor Advised Fund.

  • Gretchen also reminded members of the October 8th Topsfield Fair Club meeting. This is a wonderful way to celebrate Rotary fellowship. Manager Jamie O'Brian invited TBM for a Wednesday lunch at noon in the Club House, and to thank us for our continued community service and charitable giving. Gretchen has ONE free parking pass per Rotarian that attends. See Gretchen at next week's meeting for your pass.

  • October 1st will be the official visit from District Governor Tom Elliott. PLEASE ATTEND. Tom will also meet with the board of directors to talk about membership and polio plus prior to the club meeting.

  • Todd Darling, Fall Foliage Classic Road Race Chair, made a few announcements as well:

    October 19th Road Race starting at Procter School. Please promote and distribute flyers
    First race starts 1pm, but Rotarians should arrive by ~10am..day complete by 3pm

    Hiring local police requires substantial cost, so please help with sponsorship and racers!

    Rotarians are expected to attend and help out with one of the committees:
    • Calling Rotarians to ask for Sponsorship: refer to recent email Todd sent
    • Road Guards (Bob Murphy, Oscar Padjen, Ira Singer)
    • Food: Bob Was chairing this year, with support from Pres. Janet and Lisa Foley
    • Registration: Calling Linda Parker?
    • Set Up/Take Down : Calling all Rotarians to help with this
    • Promotion Committee: Posters, Brochures, Word-of-Mouth, Email Blasts

    Special Thanks to Bob Murphy who will coordinate trophies purchases and Gretchen Marks for her work with database, brochure distribution, emails, T-Shirts, etc. WOW! Thanks Gretchen!
