Why is recruitment so difficult?
Rotary is a great organization. There's a sense of community, fellowship opportunities and its service oriented. So why doesn't everyone want to belong? The trouble is a lot of people who aren't familiar with Rotary don't realize what it is we do or offer as an organization.
The only real way to break this chain is to invite people to join us at a meeting and experience Rotary for themselves. Invite a co-worker, friend, neighbor or business associate for lunch. They may just discover something truly amazing.
Long term develoment.
- As a Club we need to develop our own membership plan, focusing on recruitment and retention. We need to ask ourselves, what we want our club to look like in 5 years.
- Look to RI classification system. Using this tool our eyes and minds are open to discover opportunity for recruitment in our communities. Business fields we may not associate with our own are exposed and those individuals are can be identified as possible members.
- Make membership in the Club meaningful. We are a group of influential people who can have an impact on the community in which we live and work.
- Look to Family of Rotary to further support membership. Rotary becomes part of family culture when we involve our spouses and our children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
Short Term Recruiting
What can you do now to strengthen your Club?
- Wear you Rotary pin. people will associate Rotary to your positive actions and it's a great conversation starter as they ask, "What's the pin all about?"
- Good speakers make good Rotarians.
- Make induction ceremonies special moments. Invite family, friends and co workers.
- Use membership's teams within the Club. Form 5 or 6 teams that get together brainstorm and develop potential new members. Doing so will make membership recruiting a priority.
- Develop a letter that can be readily accessed by the Club members to invite potential new members to join our ranks.
