The Tri-Town RotaNews - June 28, 2006

President Peter brought meeting to order for the final time of his reign. Joe Carroll provided the blessing.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Visitors today were PDG Carl Wold from Lynnfield and our AG and future DG, Julia Phelps.

Make Ups:

There were no Make-Up cards today.

If you missed today's meeting, you have until July 12 to complete a makeup.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Happy dollars were collected from the group by Todd Darling.

  • Peter McAllister was happy to be ringing the bell for the last time...we shall see.

  • Jeff Kruck is celebrating a birthday.

  • Harry Martin kicked in a five.

  • Janet Larson was happy for trip to Chicago to visit Mom.

  • Linda Parker had a happy five for her recent time spent with her grandson.

  • Ira Singer gave a five dollar bill for the last time for the grief he's been getting over those blank blank lights at 62 and 114. Call your State rep!

  • Joanne Travers had happy dollars for her recent visit to the Alexander Graham Bell Association meeting in Pittsburgh and the MA chapter's recognition and award for the groups Mentor Program for 8-12 year olds.

  • Joe Carroll was just happy.

  • Gretchen Marks was happy for Peter and John. Gretchen also had a great time recently at a family wedding in Vermont where she stayed at the Von Trapp Family home..The hills are alive...

  • John Plate was happy to see Peter skipping and whistling in from the parking lot.

  • Peter's just way too happy today.

  • Gary Sinclair had a dollar for his daughter who is visiting, (I think she'd rather have a twenty). Gary also had a buck for vacation with Jan and another dollar for something he can't remember. Have fun sailing up the coast Jan!

Raffle:

Joe Carroll and Julia Phelps were today's lucky number holders. Julia did get a joker but it wasn't Peter.

Announcements:

  • President Peter read two letters from our recent scholarship award recipients from Masco. Rachael Kincade and Alexa Nichols. You're very welcome and good luck at college.

  • Harry Martin addressed the Club and revealed the mystery Rotarian, Sir Harry Lauder. Sir Harry was Peter McAllister's dad's godfather. Peter's penalty was to tell the members about the life of Sir Harry who was a close friend of Peter's grandfather, circus clown, William Patrick McAllister. See people, Peter really can't help himself as his DNA controls his thought process!

Harry presented Peter with a 1923 flyer promoting the appearance of Sir Harry Lauder in Boston.

  • Today was the final day in Peter's chapter as President and the beginning of a new chapter as John Plate took the helm.

Program:

Photo by Joanne Travers The lights were dimmed and five readings, thanking Rotarians and The Rotary Foundation for the generous international assistance in providing education, clean water, protection from Polio, and hope for the future. The readers were Bill Shannon, Gretchen Marks, Joe Long, Linda Parker and Harry Martin. We as Rotarians have the fortunate position of being able to touch and impact people's lives all over the world. Be proud of that fact for we are making the world a little bit better with every action in which we take part.

Harry Martin began the program today with presentations of Paul Harris Fellow Recognition to Bernie Creeden, Jeff Kruck and Derek Scialdone.

Ira Singer was recognized as a PHF+1, and Peter McAllister was recognized as a PHF+2.

Harry also told the club that Bill Shannon was recognized as becoming a Major Donor on June 1, 2006.

Photo by Joanne Travers Past President Peter thanked his board and the club for all their support this past year. He's proud of the fact that we remain 100% PHF. The gavel was passed to President John Plate who said "This is just the closing of curtain act and the beginning of a new act."

Julia Phelps, DGE presented Peter with his Past President pin. "Probably the most important pin in Rotary."

John Plate commented that everyone in here is a unique individual and participant to the Club, even Todd Darling. Our Golf Tourney and Road Race allow us to do great things for many. John presented Peter with a Rotary Plaque. One that is to be displayed for all to see so that they may become inspired about their friend and dentist Peter McAllister and maybe, just maybe join our world as Rotarians or at least understand our role in this world.

President John's Board will include, Janet Larson, Bob Murphy, Joanne Travers, Gretchen Marks and Denver Wallace. Bill Shannon will continue on as treasurer, Jan Sinclair as Secretary, Todd Darling as President Elect and Peter McAllister as Immediate Past President.

The board will be meeting every second Tuesday of the month at Angelica's at 11:00 AM. No meeting on the 5th of July people.

Ask a friend to come to lunch next week. See you next week...

Upcoming Programs:

July 12: - Our speaker will be Lakshmi Sirois . The topic will be the genocide in Darfur.

July 19: - TBA

July 26: - Bill Sargent will talk about the Ipswich flooding and bridge problems.
