The Tri-Town RotaNews - June 14, 2006

"Rotary is the golden strand in the cable of international friendship"

"The future is not a gift -- it is an achievement."

President Peter brought meeting to order and Joe Carroll provided the blessing reflecting on the good things we do as Rotarians.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Visitors us today were former TBM member Paul Brigham, now from the Wolfboro, NH Club and Kim Hazarvartian from the Concord, NH Club.

Make Ups:

There were no Make-Up cards today, but Jan has a list of those who worked and/or played at the golf tournament.

If you missed today's meeting, you have until June 28 to complete a makeup.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Happy dollars were collected from the group buy SAA Jeff Kruck.

Raffle:

Harry Martin continues a Rotarical question.

Who is that guy? The member, who should know, doesn't and will be fined accordingly and incrementally as time marches on. President Peter put it this way "The longer you wait my Rotarian friend the more you owe Spencer"...stay tuned.

The tree at the right carries his name.

He was a personal friend of Paul Harris who might have called him Sir.

If you think you know the answer, send an e-mail to Harry who will verify it for you.

  • This lady was a contemporary of our mystery Rotarian.

  • Extra points (the points don't really matter) if you can tell what it is a picture of.

Muriel Ostriche

Our mystery Rotarian wrote:

"I have been a pretty constant visitor to the White House for twenty years. I have met all the Presidents during that period and have had unique opportunities for forming first- hand impressions of the illustrious American statesmen who have ruled the destinies of the States from Theodore Roosevelt sown to the present occupant of the presidential chair. With more than one of these remarkable men I am proud to say I have been on terms of friendship.

Mystery Rotarian and Golf:

  • He was hired as a caddy at the Musselburgh Golf Course, a job he enjoyed very much.

  • He had taken tea or played golf with Presidents Wilson, Roosevelt, Taft, Harding and Coolidge.

  • A golf course carries his name.

Program:

Todd Darling provided us with an informal program and gave us a rundown of Monday's golf tournament. It was a great day to be on the course. The event was an overall success with good attendance by club members.

There was some discussion about how to improve the golfer tournout and other details that may make next year's event an even greater success.

Ask a friend to come to lunch next week. See you next week...

Upcoming Programs:

June 21: - Reneé Merritt will speak about stroke prevention.

June 28: - Installation of TBM officers for 2006-2007

July 12: - Our speaker will be Lakshmi Sirois . The topic will be the genocide in Darfur.
