The Tri-Town RotaNews - May 3, 2006

President Peter brought meeting to order and Joe Carroll provided the blessing.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Visitors today were Herb Harris from Peabody, PDG Dave Drislane from Lynnfield and our own Bill Evans stopped in to visit. Good to see you all!

Make Ups:

There were no makeup cards today

If you missed today's meeting, you have until May 17 to complete a makeup.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Happy dollars were collected.

  • Joe Long donated to Spencer, happy about his daughter Courtney's efforts with the Ipswich Early Act Club. The group of 4th and 5th graders raised over $1,000 to help out a grammar school in Mississippi affected by last years hurricane. He was also happy for the Aggie RYLA interviews which yielded four students for the RYLA weekend and for our first paid foursome.

  • Oscar Padjen donated for the halibut.

  • Jim Fitzgerald did the same.

  • Peter McAllister was happy for his son Kevin's soccer coach.

  • Herb Harris was happy for his own birthday tomorrow so we returned the glee with a Happy Birthday song. I hope Herb comes back to visit.

  • Jan Sinclair was a little sad that Gary was home ill, but see got over it and was happy about a return trip to Texas to visit family, sans Gary!

  • Ira Singer had a happy $5 as Dave Twitchell has left the hospital confines and is rehabbing once again.

  • Joanne Travers had some cash for her son who was home sick the day after the base ball bash. I guess one of his coaches is a real son of a ...a gun. Lots of stress.

  • Harry Martin was happy as he is changing tactics and will be encouraging members individually to dig deep and give more the Foundation, a great cause.

  • Dave Drislane deposited happy dollars as he discovered that Oscar really is older than he.

  • Bernie Creedon was happy about the town meetings that have school funding on the dockets.

  • Bill Shannon has continued his happy dollar flow for Eden's services. Debbie has been smiling ever since.

  • Bill Evans was happy his wife dropped him off at the meeting today.

  • Janet Larson was happy for the much needed rain we are getting.

Raffle:

Jim Fitzgerald and Bernie Creedon drew cards and Bernie won $44 and he donated the money to the golf tourney. Thanks Bernie!

Announcements:

  • The Governors newsletter had a nice write up about Joanne Travers recent visit to India and her efforts with Partners for a Greater Voice.

  • The District Conference if fast approaching, see President Peter if your interested in attending for the weekend or even a day.

  • John Plate asks that everyone keep their eyes and minds open as we search for an Ambassadorial Scholar. The award can amount to $26,000 to help an individual continue their education.

  • A Reminder to all that the 8th annual golf tournament is approaching. June 12th we will be teeing off at the Ipswich Country Club. Spread the word. Sponsor and golfer forms can be downloaded from the RotaryTBM web site. Print a few out and encourage a friend or business partner to participate. We're in need of auction items, sport tickets, golf items etc. Other rotary clubs that send foursomes will receive a donation in their name to RI back from our club. E-mail your mailbox and make an appeal to all your friends, co workers and family members. Let's make this year tourney the best ever.

Program:

Today's speaker was Jeff Kruck, one of the Clubs newest members and a Boxford resident and Realtor.

Jeff filled us in on his migration to the area and his career ladder. He is originally from the NJ - NY area but has traveled all over the states. Jeff ended up coming back and took a job in NYC working as a commercial banker. He was approached by a friend who encouraged him to enter into a franchise business selling Rolls Royce and Bentley automobiles. Jeff constructed a building in Greenwich CT and over time grew the business to become the fifth largest dealer in the world and sold that business back to his friend 7 years later.

Jeff and his wife Karen traveled around the states on the job circuit. Karen worked for Xerox and always had transfer opportunities. They have three daughters, Lauren at Bates College, Lindsey at Pingree and Alex is a 5th grader at Shore County Day School.

Jeff decided for a change in career and entered the world of real estate. Given Jeff's career path, he brings a different background to the world of home sales. He is extremely focused on the process of selling and goes above and beyond the service provided by the traditional agent.

Jeff insists on having sellers perform a home inspection prior to listing the home. "Know what issues will arise beforehand so that those issues can be addressed up front." The sellers need to price their home right the first time. Jeff has been selling real estate in the area for the last 2 years and recently began working with the world's forth largest company, Keller Williams. Approximately 30 agents will soon be moving into a new office in Topsfield Center.

It's definitely a buyers market currently and sellers are getting more realistic. The $650 to $700K price range is hot in Topsfield/Boxford. Advertising isn't what it used to be either. A large percentage of buyers begin their searches on line before venturing out to see property. If you or a friend is thinking of buying or selling please feel free to give Jeff a call.

Ask a friend to come to lunch next week. See you next week...
