The Tri-Town RotaNews - January 18, 2006

Today we welcomed Jeff Kruck of Prudential North Shore Real Estate, Boxford and Derek Scialdone of Beverly National Bank, Topsfield into the fellowship of Rotary

The Tri-Town RotaNews - January 25, 2006

President Peter M first "dinged" the Club to order & led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. John Plate provided the blessing & words of wisdom.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Sheriff Frank Cousins, from the Newburyport Club, who was also our luncheon speaker, joined us today. Willie Smith came from the Bedford Club also joined us, as did Rick Atwood, from the Haverhill Club.

Bob Murphy's grandson, Matt, a budding hockey star from Londonderry, NH, was a guest today.

Make Ups:

Oscar Padjen made up at on January 12,

Bob Luscinski made up at on January 13,

and at on January 17.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Happy Dollars were collected by Todd Darling

  • First, Harry Martin acknowledged that he had a birthday that week and Frank Cousins led a rousing (and harmonious) rendition of "Happy Birthday". Harry paid his age in dollars to the TBM Rotary Foundation for this fine rendition.

  • President Peter discovered that he had "lost" his name badge. (It was found on the floor by another Rotarian). So he had to make a sizeable contribution to the cause to get his badge back!

  • Linda Parker took Ira Singer down "Memory Lane"-Linda told Ira that she met "Cornell Knight", the man who took Ira's old position as town manager in Hollowell, Maine some 25 years ago! (And Ira remembered him!)

  • Gail Hull was very excited---the mothers & babies have survived in Guatemala; they've opened a new program there & as of January 1, she's full time with Partners in Development.

Raffle:

No winners today-Both Todd D and Bob M could not find the 4 of Hearts. 7 cards left. Will there be a winner next week---Stay tuned.

Announcements:

  • Reminder that the Meeting on February 8th will be held at the North Shore Technical High School's Logbridge Inn.

  • Don't forget about the Saturday, February, 25th World Understanding & Peace Dinner of 2006 in Hampton Falls, NH.

  • Be thinking about the golf tournament planning. Want to help? Please make it known. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Let's work together to make 2006 the best yet.

  • We're collecting useable paper to donate to the schools for our January project.

  • We're collecting outerwear (coats, hats, mittens, sweaters, boots - all cleaned and "gently" used) for our February project to donate to the BoxTop. More information will follow as to when and where to bring these items.

Some of these included: the reaccreditations process, (The Middleton & Women's Facility achieved ACAA or American Correctional Association Accreditation. received by very few in the US, the reentry initiative to bring offenders back into society , and a regional lock-up program. Mr. Cousins also spoke about the average age at which offenders are incarcerated: Juvenile (avg age14) Middleton (avg age 24).
