It still needs to be finished, but the walls are up, the rooms are partitioned and the roof is on. This allowed us to begin seeing patients.

President Peter M first "dinged" the Club to order & led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. John Plate provided the blessing & words of wisdom.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests:
Sheriff Frank Cousins, from the Newburyport Club, who was also our luncheon speaker, joined us today. Willie Smith came from the Bedford Club also joined us, as did Rick Atwood, from the Haverhill Club.
Bob Murphy's grandson, Matt, a budding hockey star from Londonderry, NH, was a guest today.

First, Harry Martin acknowledged that he had a birthday that week and Frank Cousins led a rousing (and harmonious) rendition of "Happy Birthday". Harry paid his age in dollars to the TBM Rotary Foundation for this fine rendition.
President Peter discovered that he had "lost" his name badge. (It was found on the floor by another Rotarian). So he had to make a sizeable contribution to the cause to get his badge back!
Linda Parker took Ira Singer down "Memory Lane"-Linda told Ira that she met "Cornell Knight", the man who took Ira's old position as town manager in Hollowell, Maine some 25 years ago! (And Ira remembered him!)
Gail Hull was very excited---the mothers & babies have survived in Guatemala; they've opened a new program there & as of January 1, she's full time with Partners in Development.

A brief announcement was made indicating that the Red Cross has critical need of blood once again. Further discussion was made about organizing a blood drive among Rotary member/friends to assist in meeting the Red Cross' needs. Further details will be shared at the next meeting.
Be thinking about the golf tournament planning. Want to help? Please make it known. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Let's work together to make 2006 the best yet.
We're collecting useable paper to donate to the schools for our January project.
We're collecting outerwear (coats, hats, mittens, sweaters, boots - all cleaned and "gently" used) for our February project to donate to the BoxTop. More information will follow as to when and where to bring these items.
The District 7930 World Understanding & Peace Dinner for 2006 will be held in conjunction with another district this year, Maine District 7780!

Program:
Linda Parker introduced Frank Cousins, Sheriff of Essex County as the speaker of today's TBM Rotary program. Frank gave a most interesting talk that highlighted some of his accomplishments and emphasized his future commitment to community corrections. Some of these included: the reaccreditations process, (The Middleton & Women's Facility achieved ACAA or American Correctional Association Accreditation. received by very few in the US, the reentry initiative to bring offenders back into society , and a regional lock-up program. Mr. Cousins also spoke about the average age at which offenders are incarcerated: Juvenile (avg age14) Middleton (avg age 24). He believes that drugs are the #1 problem, with heroin being very cheap and easily accessed.
