The Tri-Town RotaNews - December 14, 2005
This week was the TBM annual Christmas party. We all enjoyed the hors'deurves and conversation prior to the regular meeting. It's nice to see family members visit and get to know the Club from a different perspective.
President Peter rang the bell like a true bell ringer; stay tuned as rumor has it he'll be performing on the steps of the Topsfield Town Hall Christmas Eve. Joe Carroll gave us a thought for the day, straight from Montana, "Have a cool Yule and a thirsty first."

Great guy, stop in and visit him at his office), and Marla, Miles, Ian and Jack Darling joined the meeting.

Fines and Happy Dollars:
Spencer took the day off in honor of the holiday season.
Announcements:
- The Masconomet Chorale will be performing next Tuesday 7:30 PM at the high school auditorium.
- Thank you Barbara for your Christmas cookies and sweets.
- It's not too late for your year end contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Signing up on line is easy to do. Simply click on https://riweb.rotaryintl.org/ and follow the directions. Technologically challenged? Harry would be happy to walk you through the process. Sustaining membership is great thing to do and all the funds go to RI efforts around the world.
Program:
Today's program was geared towards celebrating the Christmas Spirit as we were visited by the Masconomet Chorale. These young adults sang beautifully and performed a number of carols for TBM members and guests. The community and their parents should all be proud of their accomplishments.
Upcoming Programs:
January 18: Walter Carter will be our speaker. This is a good opportunity for members to bring a guest.

the following is from Walter:
-
My topic is the story of my recently published nonfiction book, “No Greater Sacrifice, No Greater Love” (Smithsonian Institution Press, April 2004).
My book focuses primarily on the life and death of my father, a physician who volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1942, landed with the 29th Infantry Division on Omaha Beach on D-Day 1944, and who was killed by an enemy sniper while trying to rescue a wounded soldier on a battlefield in Normandy, France. The book also includes the story of my mother, who raised us two boys without a husband, and my discovery of my father’s story after my mother’s death in 1995.
Much of the story is drawn from my father’s letters to my mother from the war, and from accounts of veterans who served with him, including the wounded soldier my father was trying to save when he was killed.
You may find additional information about the book on the website of www.amazon.com and on my personal website, www.walterfordcarter.com.
January 25: Sheriff Frank G. Cousins will be our speaker
