The Tri-Town RotaNews - December 7, 2005

President Peter McAllister took charge of the meeting leading the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Joe Carroll provided the blessing and words of wisdom.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Lois McGinnis from the North Andover Club joined us today. Jeff Kruck visited today as a guest of Peter McAllister instead of Todd Darliing. Peter's much better half, Maureen was is attendance today as well. Welcome all!

Make Ups:

Bob Luscinski made up at on November 29,

and at on December 6.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Happy dollars were collected by SAA Dave Bunker.

  • Not Peter McAllister though. He was $5 dollar happy that his wife Maureen joined him today. Joe Long asks why he was $10 dollar happy last week? Peter added $5 more and will be sleeping in the den this week. Did you know Peter has been on the jumbotron at Qualcom Field?

  • Gretchen Marks had a happy dollar for the TBM Christmas party this past Saturday. All who went had a great time. Don't miss next year's event!

  • Ira Singer was happy to see Dave Twitchell in attendance today.

  • Dave Twitchell was happy to be here too and thankful for all those who sent wishes during his recent trip to the hospital and the rehab. He's on his way to his next recovery. The doctors have prescribed medication and tell him he can't drive.

  • Bob Luscinski reminded Dave that he never could drive.

  • Denver Wallace was a proud grandfather as his Grand Daughter won 1st place at an equestrian competition.

  • Joe Carroll is proud of his own grand daughter who was asked by a professor at Northwestern University, if he could use her leadership paper to teach a class.

  • Bob Was is happy for his daughter Allison who just announced her engagement.

  • John Plate is happy for TBM's continued support of the wheel chair foundation as we sent off the funds to purchase three more chairs for someone in need, somewhere in the world. John also had a great time at the TBM Christmas party.

  • Joanne Travers is proud of her daughter Tori who had a great outing at her equestrian competition and won two events. Joanne is traveling in January 2006 to the Dominican Republic. The trip is a follow up on our Major Matching Grant project and will also involve getting together with two Rotary Clubs and visiting 3 schools in the DR that are extremely interested in helping support our efforts. This is a great opportunity to create strong working bonds with clubs in a foreign land. The friendships that will grow will only make our efforts more effective and important in the years to come. What a great chance to make a difference. Thank you Joanne for all you do! Anyone interested in traveling with Joanne on this important follow up mission please let her know.

  • Harry Martin reminds all that it's not too late to get your sustaining member contributions in for year-end. Do it on line and ensure that your contribution will be tax deductible in 2005. Save your air miles too. Seems Virgin Atlantic will honor air miles for the first outer space, commercial flight. Cost is two million miles, priceless.

  • Gretchen Marks announced she could already to go way out.

  • Dave Twitchell was quick to add the "You are already way out". The humor we share!!

Raffle:

No winners in the house today. Bob L and Joanne T couldn't find the 4 of Hearts.

Announcements:

  • The Board of Directors met today and the slate of new officer nominations was read at the regular meeting. Peter will become the Immediate Past President, John Plate will become the President, David Bunker is nominated to be President Elect, Todd NW Darling was nominated Vice President, Bill Shannon was once again nominated as Treasurer and Jan Sinclair was nominated to become Secretary.

  • Next Wednesday we will be celebrating the holidays at Angelicas. The Masconomet HS Chorale will join us as well as entertain those Rotarians and their guests. Shrimp or Roast Beef. There was a sign up sheet that I don't think made the complete rounds.

  • Peter asked about Club project ideas for January. Shall we collect paper for the schools or organize a coat drive.

  • Immediately following the meeting we will be working on our December project, delivering Poinsettias to the meals on wheels recipients in the three towns.

  • Jan Sinclair has organized the delivery of dinner baskets to needy families in Middleton. Joanne Travers, Linda Parker, Bob Was, Gary and Jan Sinclair, and Bill Shannon are all playing key roles in the endeavor. Thank you all for your support and kindness! The baskets will be delivered next Wednesday morning.

Program:

Today's program involved the decorating, labeling, boxing up and delivering of the Poinsettia plants. The things we can do when we work together are really neat! Thank Gretchen for you efforts, great job!!
