Haiti Project Report
The clinic is put to work Mar 2, 2005
It still needs to be finished, but the walls are up, the rooms are partitioned and the roof is on. This allowed us to begin seeing patients.

Program:
Today's speaker, Tali Hull, Gail's daughter and pride and joy spoke of her experiences and the goings on in Haiti. Jan Sinclair had a "Blond Moment" as described by her betrothed as she could recall who the speaker was for the week. You had to be there. (Julia, honest to Goodness, I had nothing to do with the comment.)
Tali has been living in Haiti with her husband and child, helping PID with the continued efforts to assist the people in the area where the medical facility is being constructed. The building itself is up but the doors and windows were left off the protect it from rebels. Seems they target and public buildings and destroy the property. By leaving the windows and doors off, not installing electricity the building becomes not such an attractive target. This political unrest has cause Tali and her family to head off and begin PID's next planned project in Guatemala.
One of the biggest problems in Haiti is the lack of healthcare education. People just do not understand modern medicine. Tali spoke of a vitamin program which w is aimed at trying to fend off some of the major illnesses caused by poor nutrition. Diets in Haiti's poor areas are really lacking in any sort of balance. Vitamins were distributed but the people didn't know what they did. Rumors spread that the supplements would make a person hungrier. Even after getting a basic understanding, individuals taking the vitamins, would stop taking the supplements because the felt better. They would do this with medicines as well. Since then the education process has greatly improved and Tali reports that it is exciting to see health improvements, especially among the children.
Programs run by PID are still be carried out by people in Haiti. Once the political dust settles and safety improves, there are funds available to bring in a Haitian doctor to the clinic.
Education programs are being developed to teach the younger generations about healthcare, family planning and AIDS.

The Tri-Town RotaNews - August 17, 2005
Ten of the more intrepid members of the TBM club journeyed to the “outback” for this meeting, to have lunch with 50 preadolescents at Camp Rotary. We were well received by camp director, Rich, who brought us up to the stage where we introduced ourselves and gave our vocation. We next assaulted the buffet line to fill up on some fine camp food. Kudos to the kitchen staff who produced enough grub to satisfy us all despite the fact that the camp director forgot to tell them we were coming! We Rotarians dispersed amongst the campers and enjoyed an enthusiastic question and answer session.
Before leaving, we presented the camp with a donation of $150, which is the amount collected from club members at lunch.
For those Rotarians who have yet to visit Camp Rotary, you missed out on something special. It is worth the trip to Boxford if only to see the smiles on campers’ faces, to feel their enthusiasm, and to enjoy their fellowship. Here’s hoping that the entire club will join us next year!
