Announcements
Peter McAllister's installation dinner will be on June 30 at the Danversport Yacht Club. See the President Elect for details. Let's see if we can fill a table at this event.
Peter told the following story, pointing out some RI history that is tied to him:
"While leafing through and even reading the Rotarian Magazine “100 Years”, I ran across the name of Sir Harry Lauder.
This theatrical performer just happens to be my father’s godfather.
My grandfather, Doodles the Clown, was a circus performer on the high wire and rode the elephants at every performance of the Tower Circus in Blackpool, England. My father is named William Lauder McAllister and my son Kevin Lauder McAllister carries on the name.
Sir Harry coined the phrase “The show must go on.” when he was informed just before going on to entertain British Troops, his son had been killed by the bombing in London.
It gives me pride to be carrying on the tradition of Rotary in the McAllister family."
Golf is rescheduled for the 20th of June. Sponsor signs are still available and checks for the hole sponsors are to be made out to the TBM Rotary Foundation. Know any golfers who'd like to get out for a great day and a great cause? We still need foursomes too.
Host sponsor are being sought for the visiting "Friends Forever" group. See Linda for details.
Joanne Travers is returning this weekend from the Dominican Republic. Stay tuned for an update.
The Golf Tournament, our biggest fund raiser of the year is just around the corner, less than three weeks away.
The new date is:
Monday, June 20, 2005
.
Volunteers are needed in all departments, sponsor sign ups, marketing, p.r., recruiting golfers, donation collections and more.
Please volunteer your services and let Todd know that you can help.
Sign sponsorships can still be sold. Names of new sponsors especially need to be submitted so that we can get signs made up.
In lieu of our regular meeting all members are invited to join the golf crowd for lunch. Many attended last year's event and the golfers got a chance to see who is behind the scenes of this important fund raiser.
Program:
The No Child Left Behind Act includes Art in its definition of Core Subjects. Our speaker today, Terry Meinelt, the Art Department director at Masconomet feels the 8 art teachers are “a Team” in the academic structure at Masco. He looks for art teachers with real world experiences and interesting resumes.
Liz Saitta was a past Masco student who worked as a designer in New York. She returned to the area because she missed the lifestyle here and wanted to teach . She has been with the department as an Art Design teacher.
Joe Yutkins was a professional photographer for many years. He has brought his expertise and his own equipment to Masco’s Photography classes. Classes include Art Studio I, II, III and AP emphasizing Thematic Structure with an emphasis on critiquing.
Drawing, Painting, Photography, Graphic Arts and Digital Imaging round out the department. One bonus for local businesses Terry mentioned was the Pro Bono design work the students can provide. Letterhead, promotional materials or brochures are used as a class project, a win, win situation.
The remainder of the program entailed Terry showing off two of his student’s works. You missed some beautiful art.
