The Tri-Town RotaNews - March 9, 2005

President Linda tapped the bell and Harry provided the blessing today.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Visiting Rotarians included Richard Atwood from Haverhill, Dave Drislane, Doug Soderberg and Kirk Curley from Lynnfield, Marie Gannon from Salem MA, Paul Miller and Dick Harrington from Lawrence. Thanks for helping us fill our room up today!!

Make Ups:

There were no makeup cards today.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

  • President Elect Peter served as the Sergeant at Arms today and strolled the room trying to $50 out of everyone for every reason under the sun.

  • Harry broke out his 2 bucks and proudly announced that we are the only 100% PHF club in the district. We are also a 100% Sustaining Member club. It only amounts to 2 bucks a week to ensure that we retain our position.

  • Ira put $10 into the pot, happy that he safely returned home last evening in a white out.

  • Joe was fined for turning 42 today.

Raffle:

Today the cards didn't work out for Doug Soderberg or Harry.

Announcements

  • Peter McAllister announced his involvement in the Smile for Life Foundation. Dentists from all across the States donate their time and materials for teeth whitening. The cost is $250 for a head full of white teeth. Every penny goes to charity. Half of Peter's efforts will benefit the Tri Town Counsel.

  • President Elect Peter is off to PETS...be prepared everyone.

  • Don't forget that the golf tourney is coming up on May 26. Volunteers are requested to come forward and help make this year's event the most successful ever.

  • RYLA interviews will be conducted next week on the 16th with Masco and on the 23rd at the Voc.

Program:

Michael Levy spoke to us today about the major problem and reality of substance abuse in our backyards. High School students are exposed to more than just alcohol and marijuana. Heroin as well as Oxycontin and other prescription drugs are all too readily available.

We are fortunate to have local treatment facilities like CAB in our area.

Upcoming Programs:

March 16: John Finley - Epiphany School, Dorchester
March 23: Mark Rogers - Cape Wind

Calendar:

May 12-15:District 7930 Centenial Conference Celebration at The Sagamore
(Lake George at Bolton Landing N.Y.)
June 18-22, 2005: Rotary Centennial Celebration in Chicago - where it all begin!
