The Tri-Town RotaNews - November 17, 2004

President Linda called the meeting to order, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer from Joe Carroll.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

We had no visiting Rotarians today. President Linda had a guest, Karin Wilmarth, who works at the Sheraton.

Make Ups:

Bob Luscinski attended a makeup meeting at on November 16.

Harry Martin made up at the on November 12

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Seargent At Arms John looms large in the eyes of the club!
Fines were fine.

Sargent at Arms, John Plate, started collecting Happy/Sad Dollars today by blowing a whistle to get our attention.
Eden put a few dollars in the pot for missing the last several meetings. Baby #3 is on the way and with Jen feeling a bit under the weather, Eden's been helping out more at home with the other two little darlings.
Peter gave $2.00 in hopes that someone would open a golf course soon.

Raffle:

No one won the weekly jackpot. Bob Was and Eden Hutt both tried their luck.

Announcements:

  • There will be NO meeting next Wednesday, November 24, due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

  • President Linda announced that the Wilmington Rotary Club is having an auction, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the KFC Hall. Everyone is welcome.

  • President Linda also announced that she'd spoken to Jack Leitner, whose spirits remain high. The Board approved Jack's request for a leave of absence through May 1, 2005. Jack starts his chemotherapy soon, which will be a lengthy process for him. Jack, we miss you at our meetings and our prayers are with you.

  • Today our members came bearing food and coat donations for the Inn Between, a homeless shelter run by Nancy Crowder of the Peabody Rotary Club. Joanne Travers and Bob Murphy generously offered to transport these items to the shelter after our meeting. Not only did they have to climb stairs just to enter the building, they had to bring the items to the second floor! Apparently Joanne carried everything while Bob led the way and opened the doors! What a gentleman! Photo of Joanne Travers
  • Jan Sinclair will be ordering new name badges soon. She will have your name printed as listed on the club roster unless you email her at jsinclair@gis.net by November 26 of another preference (ie. nicknames, middle initials).

  • Our club Christmas Party will be held on December 4 at Four Mile Village from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Chris Kourkoulis is donating hors d'oeuvres, Peter McAllister is donating a case of wine and Linda Parker and Jan Sinclair will be making small deserts. Joe Long and Jan Sinclair have volunteered to handle the decorations and they were nice enough to volunteer their spouses to help as well. There is no charge for the event, but Rotarians and guests are urged to bring a small, wrapped gift ($15.00) for a Yankee Swap.

Program:

Our speaker was Richard Paganelli, an optometrist from Georgetown. Richard is heading an initiative in the Georgetown area to create a recreational pathway. This pathway, which hopefully will run through Salisbury, Newburyport, Newbury, Georgetown, Boxford, Topsfield, Wenham and Danvers, is called the Border to Boston Rail Trail. Richard hopes to get the backing of the Town of Georgetown. He's received great response from the Georgetown residents, many of whom are hoping to use the trail for walking, biking, in line skating and jogging. Photo by Joanne Travers
