The Tri-Town RotaNews - September 8, 2004

President Linda Parker brought the meeting to order at 12:15 and John Plate provided the blessing.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Visiting Rotarians today included, Paul Miller from the Lawrence Club, Bill Scotti from the Beverly Club and Bruce Eaton from the Danvers Club.

Make Ups:

There were no make up cards received this week.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

Sergeant at Arms, John Plate gleefully picked up Spencer from the registration table and began circulating around the room.

Harry Martin made a plea for all to consider getting their sustaining contributions in by the end on November, which happens to be Rotary Foundation Month, for the 2004-2005 Rotary year. The earlier we give, the easier the accounting.

Joanne Travers has cookbooks available that support the Partners for a greater Voice cause.

Bob Murphy deposited a buck.

Jack Leitner paid up for his cell phone disturbance during the BOD meeting.

Jim Fitzgerald paid 2 bucks because he enjoyed seeing Jack sweat.

Oscar Padjen quietly turned over a dollar.

President Linda had nothing but change (quarters, dimes and nickels).

Jan Sinclair fesses up about her birthday this week and was happy that the Amesbury Club sang to her.

Peter McAllister led us in song and made sure we weren't out done.

Gary Sinclair found $2 for his joy and excitement over the 25th annual Fall Foliage Classic Road Race tee shirts, which he was modeling.

Peter McAllister had a happy/sad dollar, as he is confused over his daughter's acquisition of a horse. A really big horse. Oh and a goat too. Make sure you make next weeks meeting so you can see Peter in overalls.

Ira Singer proposed that we include sustaining membership contributions on our bi annual bills.

Paul Miller got caught making change.

Bob Was provided a donation for his recent trip to Alberta on which he ended up riding a horse in a blizzard. It was so cold that gloves were purchased.

Al Craig found a break in the Fair planning and also paid Spencer.

The puzzle is temporarily on vacation. Stay tuned.

Announcements:

  • President Linda made a plea to the Club Membership to really think about what it is you'd like to do to help TBM be successful in our efforts this year. Helping with membership growth and retention, working towards an international project, helping ensure clean water in our world.

  • Committee chairs are asked to prepare a summary of their goals for this year and provide an action plan for how you plan to attain these goals.

  • Next Saturday the 18th is the Boxford Apple Festival. Anyone interested in getting involved please contact Linda 978 750-1900 ext 3328.

Program:

Bob Was stepped in last minute as the speaker of the day. He told about the recent introduction of Health Savings Accounts. It's the latest from Washington in an effort to ease the burden of increasing health insurance premiums for both the worker and the employer. An HAS can be paired with any qualified high-deductible health plan. Contributions made are tax deductible, interest grows tax deferred and the amount rolls over from year to year. For more info and the real story talk to Bob.
