The Tri-Town RotaNews - July 28, 2004

President Linda rang the bell at 12:14 and Joe Carroll gave a quick blessing and the last meeting for July 2004 began.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests:

Marie Gagnon from Salem MA, Dave Swenson from Danvers and Bob Bradford from Beverly and today's speaker were all the visiting Rotarians with us today. Bob brought along co-workers Eric Smith from the Northshore Chamber of Commerce and Michelle Flear a student at Salem State. The so far missing Jim Fitzgerald brought a guest as well, Gordon Kneeland, a CPA with Investor's Capital.

Fines and Happy Dollars:

John Plate also know to many as "Nino the Knuckle Buster" was encouraging the attendees to donate to the cause. Many did without hesitation.

Happy dollars flowed. Bob Luscinski celebrated number 63, Happy Birthday Bob!!

Jim Fitzgerald confessed for being late with a guest in attendance and was very happy to find himself...back on the TBM web page. Ira Singer was just plain happy. Joanne Traverse was happy over the submission of the grant request to the district for the support of Partners for a Greater Voice and that the Rotary Club of San Pedro has also adopted the project. Denver Wallace celebrated his grandson achievements in a recent golf tournament. Perhaps he could show Peter McAllister a thing or two about the short irons?

And the axe fell as the pinless were drawn and quartered, I mean dollared to death. Bob Murphy winced as he realized that his pin was still on his dresser. Dave Bunker stole Eden Hutt's or Eden stole Dave's, I think there is a Rotary Pin for sale at the next meet gentlemen. Linda the pins are in your collection of Rotary paraphernalia.

Raffle:

At last the numbers were drawn but today was not Joe Carroll or Ira Singer's day for filling their gas tanks. The 2 of heart remains undetected. Some are saying that Linda may be pulling a Bob Murphy trick.

Announcements:

  • Linda had a few announcements for the gathering. District Governor Donna D'Agostino and Betty Bullock are still looking for volunteers to help out with the Italian GSE team.

  • Alicia Carmichael from Friends Forever is also looking for volunteers to trek Northern Ireland visitors around the Northshore. The is a meeting of the NS Friends Forever next Tuesday at Hancock Associates in Danvers. Please call Linda at 978 750-1900 ext 3328 if you're interested in getting involved with this great organization.

  • Susan Gannon brought in some of the "File for Life" cards for us to check out. This program is being sponsored by the Kiwanis and TBM Rotary for the Middleton Senior Center.

  • The Road Race Committee is alive and well. Anyone interested in helping out please see Ira. We are in the midst of getting another car weekend together for the event as well any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Seek out sponsors early and often. The list of last years supporting will be made available to all members to insure we're not harassing someone more than once...or twice..or.

  • We're also looking into the possibility of having a booth at the Fairgrounds this year. What a great opportunity to get the word out, sell some raffle tickets for the Mazarti Weekend and get into the Fair for free!!!

Program:

Today we heard from Bob Bradford, fellow Rotarian and Director of the Northshore Chamber of Commerce. The NSCC supports local business in a number of ways. Networking opportunities at Business after five, breakfast forum and legislative sessions are only a fraction of what goes on at the Chamber. The work tirelessly in supporting a number of initiatives in transportation, workforce training, healthcare, energy, regionalization, environmental and clean air issues only to name a few.

Feel free to check them out at on August 18 at Castle Hill in Ipswich for a Business after Five event or at their September 1 Breakfast Forum at the Danvers port Yacht Club.
