The Tri-Town RotaNews - July 21, 2004
President Linda rang the bell in the lower level of Angelica's and Joe Carroll provided the blessing.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests:
David Shaw from Haverhill (and a former TBM member) and Stan Brown of the Danvers Club were both in our company today. President Linda brought local real estate agents Jerry Carlo and Arete Pascucci as guests.
Fines and Happy Dollars:
John Plate had a great time as usual walking Spencer around the room in search of happy dollars and fines.
Joe Long thought he was Peter McAllister and showed up after the bell and paid late fines and one for a sunburn.
Peter M boasted of his golf perfection, then woes and then greatness.
Sherrif John handed out fine cards. Read them while everyone listened, and you can rest assured that if you break any of these cardinal rules...or any to be announced at a later date, you'll pay. John handed out consolation prizes of sorts. Jacks games to Eden Hutt, Joe Long, and Jim Fitxgerald. Seems Carol Plate may be trying to get the interest in Jacks back on the North shore.
David Bunker paid a happy dollar for Stan Brown who headed district 15 Little League this year with great success.
Jim Fitzgerald paid $5 to get his name on the back of a milk carton. Seems he's be dropped from the TBM web site. Harry Martin is going to investigate the matter.
Harry Martin paid $5 because he forgot to bring the list of those who responded to the question in the RotaNews. John Plate then announced that another week's grace period would be in effect to get the answers in, but woe to those who have not responded by next week's meeting!
Who has been associated with TBM the longest, Dave, Spencer or Peter?
Raffle:
There were no winners of today's raffle.
Announcements:
- Joe Collins of Topsfield and a former TBM member is currently stationed in the "Green Zone" in Iraq. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
- President Linda received letters from Donna D and Betty Bullock regarding the upcoming GSE with Italy. More details will follow.
- Please contact Linda ASAP if you can make the August 11 Membership 101 get together at Danversport. Time is 4-8 and includes a BBQ supper and fellowship. A great way to get to meet and know other Rotarians in and about our area.
- On August 18 we will be heading to Boston for a joint meeting. The DNC will be over so traffic shouldn't be an issue. Transportation should be an issue either as we will be car-pooling. Let President Linda and/or Jim Fitxgerald know now that you plan on attending. The field trip promises to be a lot of fun.
Program:
Today's speaker, Kerri Mackin from The IRWA (Ipswich River Watershed Association) told us about the hopes of restoring the Ipswich River.
Every year the River receives its fair share of press as it has been listed on one of the most endangered rivers in the country. The goal is to have the river restored by 2012.
Did you know the IREWA just moved their offices from Ipswich back to Topsfield? Just recently the Federal Government provided a grant for $1 million dollars to help restore the river.
Kerri then spoke passionately about the life cycle of water entering the river, the effects of taking water from the watershed and how life in and around the river is impacted by its use and abuse.
