The Tri-Town RotaNews - October 9, 2002

Today's meeting was held at the 178th Topsfield Fair, America's Oldest Agricultural Fair!

Our host for the day, Topsfield Fair general manager and TBM Rotarian Al Craig opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation by John Plate.

Al welcomed his fellow Rotarians to the Topsfield Fair and introduced our servers, Lisa Heitz, Mrs. Essex County 2002 and several of her predecessors.

Al was then presented with recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow by club Foundation Chair Harry Martin.

Announcements:

The District Membership Seminar was held on Thursday morning, October 10. Gary, Jan, Bob and Linda attended. The push for quality membership is still very much alive! Every club member is asked to participate in the Global Quest. That is, sponsor at least one new member this year and wear your Rotary pin every day.

Gretchen Marks and Roberta Knight requested, and were granted by the board, leaves of absence.

There is still time left to register for the Rotary Club of Greater Georgetown's Charter Presentation Banquet. The cost is $55 per person. Gary or Linda will collect your checks. So far, only seven TBM Rotarians have signed up to go. That is a low number considering that we co-sponsored the formation of the Georgetown Club!

The club service committee is considering organizing a social event on November 16, which would double as a celebration for the club attaining 100% Paul Harris Fellow status. Stay tuned for details.

The Fall Foliage Classic Road Race

The Fall Foliage Classic Road Race:

The road race takes place this coming Sunday, October 20. Please plan to be there between 11 AM and 12 noon. The team competition is in high gear! There is still time to solicit donations and win great prizes! Please do your part!

Unfortunately, my delay in sending this bulletin to Harry gave "Irreverent" time to send me a short note:

Okay, here's how I really feel . . .

As to Jumpin' Jack Leitner's "sassy" performance with the albino snake: No Comment, except, someone needs to help this man.

As to the Team Captain's Report: HELP !!!

As to the rest of you as a whole: Totally beyond help! No, I jest. In fact, I've listed here every conceivable personality asset that you posses - all that so endear you to you're fellow club members, especially me! As follows . . .

?

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

By Irreverent

Be sure to attend the Halloween club meeting on October 30 to help us unveil this ghoul.

With only two weeks until the road race, the teams must now begin to hit their solicitation stride as our goal of $10,000 looms ever closer.

Program:
Our speaker today carried with him a very powerful message... in the form of a big snake named Randy. Talk about an attention grabber! This albino Burmese python was about six feet long and quite heavy. Just ask volunteer handler Jack "Big Squeeze" Leitner. Jack wrapped the snake around his neck, and then walked around the arena allowing fellow Rotarians to touch it. During his demo walk, Jack made quite a stir when something long and cylindrical protruded from between his legs and waggled around for all to see. Jack says it was the snake's tail, but those close to the action tell a different story. In fact, one former Mrs. Essex County was administered smelling salts after Jack flashed by! Randy the snake
