Governor Dave has invited Rotary clubs to submit their suggestions for nominations for District Governor to serve in the Rotary year 2008-2009 (July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009)
Such suggestions will be considered by our District Nominating Committee so long as they reach Governor Dave at 46 Freeport Drive, Burlington, MA 01803 by the deadline of October 1, 2005.
Suggestions by clubs for governor shall be submitted in the form of a resolution adopted at a regular meeting of the club naming the suggested candidate. The resolution must be certified by the club secretary.
A club may also suggest a candidate for governor-nominee who is a member of another club, so long as the suggesting club first obtains concurrence of the club where such candidate is a member.
The District Nominating Committee for governor shall not be limited in its selection to those names submitted by clubs in the district. The committee shall nominate the best qualified Rotarian who is available to serve as governor.
Status, Qualifications, and Duties of Governor (2004 Manual of Procedure, pg. 24): The administration of clubs in a district are under the direct supervision of a governor. It is essential that a Rotarian elected to the office of governor, as the officer of RI in the district, be fully qualified, well-informed as to the duties and responsibilities, carefully selected, and willing and able, physically and otherwise, to perform them. It is recommended that governors also have computer skills. It is necessary that the qualifications of the office of governor be clearly understood and duly regarded in the selection of governors-nominee (RCP 19.010.2).
Qualifications of a Governor-nominee – please refer to RI BYLAWS Article 15.070 (2004 Manual of Procedure, pg. 223) before submitting your club’s nomination (also available online at www.rotary.org). In addition to numerous criteria, the Rotarian must have served as president of a club for a full term (presidents currently serving in 2005-06 are not eligible for nomination) or be a charter president of a club having served the full term from the date of charter to 30 June, provided that the period is at least six months. A governor at the time of taking office must have attended the RI international assembly training for governors for its full duration, been a member of one or more Rotary clubs for at least seven years, and must continue to possess the qualifications in section 15.070.
Other District level positions will also be selected by the District Nominating Committee for election at the annual district conference in May, 2006: Secretary 2006-2008 (two-year term); Assistant Secretary 2006-2008 (two-year term); Treasurer 2006-2008 (two-year term); Assistant Treasurer 2006-2008 (two-year term); Trustee of the District Permanent Fund 2006-2009 (three-year term).
